Cabaret dates so far are:
Feb 19 2010, Masonic "Do" &
May 22 2010, Golf Club "Do"
Details circulated to members early in October outlined the reasons for this development and the necessity of matching the selection of performances to the anticipated audience and the venue facilities. In addition we have to recognise that, as the organisations which are booking our shows are paying for our services, they will expect the highest standards even though we are classed as amateurs
The process that the organising team now has to go through is matching the requirement of the client groups to the range of interested and available SAOS members and their skills and preferences. There will clearly be some differences in the approaches needed to each venue and their audience requirements. The resulting programmes may only require a performer to be present for the actual time that they are on stage.
As performance spaces, changing facilities etc will undoubtedly be restrictive it is likely that we will be going in to perform then leave, rather than spending an evening socialising with other members. It is also likely that a number of bookings might in fact be for Saturday evenings.
Our task now is to build up a directory of members indicating performance preferences such as solo, duo or group; style of songs –musicals/ ballads/swing/ rock etc; dance routines; short monologues or readings. In fact any style or type of performance that an individual or small group of members may wish to offer will need to be referenced. A sub-committee of the SAOS Committee has been established to oversee this development and to audition members wishing to participate. This will consist of Stephen Hughes-Alty, Chris Baker and Jackie Morris.
